In early 2022, the fifth wave of Covid broke out in Hong Kong. About 1 million people in Hong Kong have been infected and 9,000 have died from Covid. Hong Kong's medical system is no longer affordable, resulting in the need for additional temporary beds in outdoor areas of hospitals.

The Hong Kong government has implemented different policies in response to the Covid, such as closing hair salons and sports venues, and restricting restaurants to no more than two people per meal. But the failure to stop the spread of Covid has left the funeral under pressure and unable to multiple bodies.
