In the silence

From the semi-autobiographical series An Internal Rumour, exploring the unreliable, gossamer nature of memory, where details constantly shift and change, until all that is certain is the emotion we felt. In the silence depicts the awkward longings and tongue-tied emotions of adolescence.

Marea Reed is a narrative photographic artist, interested in creating fictional worlds which evoke emotional connection in the viewer. Believing that our environments have profound impact on how we see the world, her works are often portraits, set in nature as a secondary character of the image. Influenced by both cinematography and the Old Masters, Marea's work balances intimacy and context, understanding that what happens even at the edge of the frame has a part in telling the story.
