I am currently in assisted living, unable carry my gear very far. After photographing the two rooms that are currently my world in a literal way, I started this second series after reading criticism of the electronic shutter in my Hasselblad XDII. The Vibration series uses this shortcoming as an asset, photographing ordinary things and distorting them extremely by moving the camera. I make several images, then composite them in image editing software to create dynamic, new abstractions that explore what’s artistically possible even under restricted circumstances.
Charlie Lemay is a native of Manchester, NH, who has been a professional Graphic Designer and Photographer since 1973, as well as an educator at the college and secondary school levels. His photographic digital collages and traditional photography have won numerous awards and have been exhibited nationally. After 20 years of teaching photography and computer graphics at St. Paul’s school in Concord, NH he retired in 2019. He continues to make art and to self-publish books that include his photography.
