Reclamation is the newest body of work from the British artist Gina Soden. Soden seeks out abandoned and derelict buildings and locations, finding beauty in decline and decay. Reclamation focusses on nature’s triumph, as plants, trees, moss and mould reclaim spaces. The absence of human life is profoundly felt in these scenes. There is a duality at the heart of this series between our architectural prowess and the fallacy that humankind has any permanent control over nature. In this painterly exploration of time and nature, Soden suspends reality and gives us room to think and feel.
