Black and White in Colour

Iceland is an island of raw and powerful landscapes. The first snowfall brought quiet to the country’s Highlands with the mountains, valleys, rivers, and lakes becoming a collection of shapes and forms. The volcanic slopes and black lava deserts emerged from snow drifts and snow dusting to take on a quiet yet majestic monochromatic existence with the occasional shade of pale blue in the sky. Like a blank canvas, the landscape was now calm, allowing for imagination to play with the simplicity of elements. These images are of a monochrome landscape, taken in colour.

Ulana Switucha has photographed throughout Asia for over 30 years. She is inspired by light, shape and tone and is drawn by the clarity and awareness of creating an image. Her simple, often minimal, compositions present a connection with the subject whether it be landscape, portraiture or documentary.
