Teen Mothers from the Caribbean

The Dominican Republic is one of the countries with the highest rates of pregnant teenagers in the world. At the outskirts of the capital Santo Domingo, in the near town of Bajos de Haina, ARCORES –a small local NGO– tries to address this offering medical, psychological and legal accompaniment to pregnant adolescents between 11 and 17 years of age. The project is called "Por una vida digna integral Adolescentes embarazadas" (‘A dignified life for pregnant teenagers’). Likewise, they provide family follow-up and technical training to mothers to provide them with a means of economic livelihood.
