No Way Back

In a small village in Bosnia-Herzegovina, near the border to Croatia, an old ruin has become home to four Afghan families. They’ve lived here for three months while trying to cross the border to the EU. Some have tried up to 44 times. Every time they’ve been pushed back by the Croatian police, often violently. The UNHCR estimates, that more than 14,500 refugees have come to Bosnia-Hercegovina in 2020. Many live in abandoned houses or improvised shelters, and the Danish Refugee Council has documented, how several people have been attacked, beaten, and even sexually abused by Croatian police.
