I developed the idea for my panorama-like pictures through various non-fiction books that fascinated me in my early childhood. They depicted cross-sections of underground passages such as mines or animal dwellings. Due to the constricting spatial conditions of the wide and at the same time very narrow underground corridors, one would never be able to make out the totality and the associated added value of the architecture with the naked eye. In this way, the viewer succeeds in counteracting natural visual habits with the laws of "frontal photography" - as I call it.
Wolfgang Stahl was born in Heidelberg in 1973 and graduated as a state-certified photo designer from the Lette-Verein in Berlin in 2003. He has exhibited in various European cities and received several awards. Among them "Finalist" Arte Laguna Prize Venice, "Finalist" One Eyeland Awards Chennai, "Honorable Mention" International Color Awards Beverly Hills, "Honorable Mention" Black & White Spider Awards Beverly Hills, "Gold" London Photographic Association.
After a three-year stay in London, Stahl has been living in Munich with his wife and seven-year-old son since 2008.
