An epidemic of teen pregnancies is permeating the population in Rwanda. Girls as young as 13 find themselves in this unwarranted circumstance. As a result of rape and ignorance of engaging in sexual activities without protection, nor any knowledge of the responsibility of motherhood. The fathers run away. They bring shame to the family, are isolated and abandoned. These damaged adolescents have assumed the responsibility of being mothers when they are still children. The aim of this essay is to give voice to these damaged girls.
Carol Allen Storey is an award-winning documentary photo journalist specialising in chronicling complex humanitarian and social issues.

In 2000 Carol graduated Central St. Martins, Master Photography Programme with distinction. Storey’s further degrees include an MA at Columbia University and a BA at Syracuse University. A native New Yorker, Storey resides in London
