Honorable Mention / 2021 / Portraiture / Self-Portrait

Who am I?

I pose with a deconstructed computer monitor that comes from the era I was born in (the late 1990s).

Living under one of the longest COVID lockdown orders in the world, my personal and professional interactions have become increasingly reliant on technology. This photo reflects on how technology has increasingly become an extension of the self and how it shapes and influences personal identity.

Sage is a 26-year old fine art photographer living in Canada. Coming from a rural background, she moved to Toronto in 2018 where she began exhibiting her photographic works for the first time.

Sage works mostly in self-portraiture and is influenced by the plastic pollution and animals that are found in Toronto. Having endured insecure housing situations and periods of homelessness from 2017-2019, Sage was inspired to reflect on themes of ownership, responsibility, and public/private space through photography.

Sage graduated with a BFA from Concordia University in 2018.
