Photographed between June of 2020 and March of 2021, this project documents one of Israel’s most extended mass protest waves it has ever known. Every week, thousands of people demonstrated against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces an ongoing trial with indictments of fraud, bribery, and breach of trust. Amid the Covid-19 crisis, which brought Israel to a new socioeconomic low, and despite being exposed to police brutality, people couldn't stay silent any longer. For many, driven by unbearable despair and great hope, this fight was over the country’s democratic future.
Daniel Rolider is a visual storyteller whose work focuses on environmental issues and the relationship between humans and nature. Based in Israel, Rolider’s photography explores how the environment shapes us as individuals and as a community.
Rolider’s work has been published in National Geographic, the New York Times, the Washington Post, ESPN, the Wall Street Journal, Libération, PDN, L’Oeil de laPhotographie, and in the Israeli publications Haaretz and Yedioth. He attended the Eddie Adams Workshop and in 2020, was nominated for the Joop Swart Masterclass of the World Press Photo.
