Tokyo's public telephones have been gradually disappearing as the city's modernization plan and new telecommunications technologies advance. Empty aluminum pedestals can be seen in many parts of the capital. However, the spaces in which there are still public telephones are being re-signified by citizens as a place to, once again, communicate, take a break and even to build a temporary home where to spend the night.
