Coral perceived by many to be plants but are in fact animals is the one of the main reasons life exists on earth. Coral reefs only cover 0.0025 percent of the oceanic floor but they generate half of Earth's oxygen and absorb nearly one-third of the carbon dioxide generated from burning fossil fuels. A victim of global warming with rising sea surface temperatures and coral bleaching episodes causing a decline in coral calcification. Very few pristine coral reefs still exist in the world but this series of photos hopefully showcases what we are losing and is part of an ongoing project.
