Living On The Edge

In these images I am looking for a certain tension and a suggestive narrative. It is not just about the object itself but why is it placed there and how. I like to give attention to the everyday and the banal, hidden meanings, mild humour and irony, and reflection upon the medium of Dutch classical still life genre itself. Like a rubber cleaning glove balancing on one finger top. A split second reflective of the possibility of another life. Or a nostalgic looking pudding placed so far on the edge of a cupboard it might fall off. Living on the edge.

Photography and film give me an opportunity to fulfill my curiosity for the mysteries of everyday encounters. I am always interested in people’s vitality and fate, how we shape the world around us. On an emotional and narrative level, I am interested in looking at human bonds and at people’s being, both physical and mental: love relationships, family, friendship, childhood, aging, physical fragility, courage, desire and hope. It’s this universality that creates a bond, touches us as we recognize common existential questions and feelings.
