In the spring of 2017, I developed a new series devoted to prominent and promising women in the art world, Artfully Dressed: Women in the Art World. The concept of my project (begun prior to the #MeToo movement) is to shine a light on the many talented women in this field - to showcase their accomplishments, intelligence, power, and beauty. To date, this series includes almost 300 international women from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, nationalities, ages, and professions. I have photographed artists, art historians, museum directors, to name some of the professions in the project.
Carla van de Puttelaar (1967, Zaandam) is an artist and art historian. Her photographic work has gained worldwide recognition, and she has exhibited in numerous museums and galleries around the world. Her work has appeared in many publications including five monographs. She works for acclaimed magazines and publishers such as The New York Times Magazine and The New Yorker. She is known worldwide for her photos of female nudes and flowers, and for her current portrait project: Artfully Dressed: Women in the Art World, which recently exhibited at Sotheby’s New York.
