Sensoji

These images were taken in the complex of Sensoji temple in
the Asakusa district of Tokyo to illustrate the secular approach
to religion of the Japanese people. The great popular inflow and
the attendance of the temples (in the complex there is a famous
Buddhist temple but also a Shinto shrine) takes place outside of
official celebrations and consists of many small rituals
individually consumed, often in both temples, in a syncretism
that combines animist spiritualism, purification of body and soul
with good luck wishes. The series is part of a larger travel
reportage about Japan.
