Child Trafficking in Nepal

  • Photographer
    Aycin Bayraktaroglu, Turkey

Every year 6.000 to 8.000 children, ages starting from 9, are
missing from Nepal's especially remote areas whom are taken
by or sold to human traffickers, transferred mainly to India. And
they are sent to brothels or heavy human labor.Families are
never heard of them ever after. This image is a part of my
documentary work about this severe issue. S. (age 16), living in
a remote village of Nepal which many girls had been missing is
making her daily make-up in a hope of living a better life which
is a false perception created by human traffickers.

I'm interested in humanity without any discrimination of religion, language, race. I know that each individual is unique and special, this is why in all my portraits, I reflect them in their most real and most simple state. For me every face I photograph is a great story about humanity.

I am also working on documentaries about under-represented yet very rich and heritage communities in India. First project was about Hijras, the third gender of India which is a documentary about their unknown daily life and rituals.

I worked on tribal people of Gujarat, India, the hidden colourful communities of tribal people and their ancient heritage culture which is still preserved as is.

Recently I am working on a documentary about Child and Sex trafficking in Nepal in collaboration with NGO Mercy Nepal.
