‘The Cage’ is one the of the world’s most famous street basketball
courts. Situated in the heart of New York’s West Village, these
fenced in courts on West 4th Street often attract a large number of
local and foreign spectators – all of them gathering outside the
fence in order to get a glimpse of some of the best treats the
game has to offer. Inside ‘The Cage’, however, an entirely different
reality exists. Here, people get together in their love for playing
the game while this place also serves as hang-out: a sort of
informal sanctuary where one can crack a joke or two. ‘The Cage’
has its own local heroes and respected personalities, and the
fellowship here is tied together by something which is far greater
than the game itself.
