from somewhere, to elsewhere

  • Photographer
    Yota Yoshida, Japan

They pictured in this photos, me as I write this, and you who are
looking at the photographs, all exist right now in our own
respective times. To me, “you” are the future, the presence of
which I can only imagine. You the observers probably sense “them
and me” living in different times. This is also a letter from myself
and them to you, who are in "elsewhere" of this story. I am
confident that the emotions triggered in those of you who are
receiving this will lead to something yet different.

Yota Yoshida (1981) is a street photographer who lives in Tokyo Japan. Each of his photos show the atmosphere of the present day in this society. It gives the impression of being almost haunted, and even scared at times, but fascinated in the strength of the use of visual language in images. However, these are not exceptional photographs that only he was capable of taking; he think many people could have taken similar pictures if they were only in the same place. He believe this to be true because the act of taking photographs is not an act of production, but rather of feeling and capturing what is already being expressed in the surroundings.
