“Ballet is the body rising. Ballet is ceremonial and hieratic. Its
disdain for the commonplace material world is the source of its
authority and glamour.”
—CAMILLE PAGLIA

Weightless bodies, captivating lines and shapes sculptured en
pointe; ballerinas prance elegantly in their cloud-like tutus. Like
majestic birds, they elongate their arms caressing the wind and
paint a story with their skillful physiques.

This series explores the graceful moves of female ballet dancers
and portrays their perfected gestures in an abstract, fluid, and
poetic way. It illustrates how ballerinas fuse body and mind in
the vibrant world that is ballet.

Marlene Paez is a Dominican photographer based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

She began her photographic exploration process in 2008, and has since been drawn to reveal the human being, from its individuality and spirituality to its role in society. As a result of this interest, presenting the person as a multidimensional being has become the focal point of her work.
