East West Spill

Airports leak light. The areas that surround them are
inadvertently, beautifully, lit by them, transforming these often
industrial spaces. Whilst the airports activity leaves light scars on
the night sky.

An ongoing project, East West Spill looks at the spaces of the
industrial fringe that often immediately surround a modern
airport. The busy places of activity of the day are transformed into
spaces of quiet illumination in the evening lit by the light spill
from the airport.

Using a medium format Holga, often with expired film, allows the
potential for chance imperfections. These idiosyncrasies in many
ways help enhance and soften the harshness of the scape.
