Little Kayan Lahwi

The Kayan Lahwi, a sub-group of the Karenni people are a Tibeto-Burman ethnic minority
from Burma whose women traditionally wear brass neck coils starting at the age of 5. Due
to conflict with the military regime in Burma in the late 1980s and early 1990s, many
Kayan tribes fled to the Thai border area. Among the camps set up for the refugees one was
known as the Long Neck camp. Meeting the community and families living there I was quickly
fascinated by the natural grace and elegance of the Karenni women and their children.
