Landscape Architecture of Farmers

During my first visit to Bolivia and Peru, we visited
Taquile Island in Lake Titicaca, the first land returned to
the Quechua people after the Spanish conquest. The
Quechua follow traditional patterns of their Inca
ancestors from weaving to their use of the hand-built
terraces, a kind of human architecture to strengthen their
mountainous land, reducing erosion, and also to build in
different kinds of soil for specific crops. Like so much in
the Andean lands, form follows function and beauty as
well.
