Sometimes materials or images for a specific collage can be found. Other times you have
to produce them yourself, by taking pictures or making a drawing or sketch that fits in
with the vision of the collage. For this collage series I used homemade still life photo
material which I took with an analogue camera and printed myself in the dark room. The
prints were actually rejected, but I kept and eventually re-used them. This series is an
investigation about the play with 2- and 3-dimensionality by cutting out some of the photo
parts and let the light and shadow play a role in the final images.
BIOGRAPHY MAARTJE ANSEMS
Maartje was born in 1978 in a small village called Weebosch in the Netherlands. At the age of seventeen she left home to investigate her chances and possibilities in the world of art and photography. Since then she studied in Tilburg (The Netherlands), Brussels (Belgium) and Duesseldorf (Germany). Today she lives and works as a photographer partly in The Netherlands and in Germany.
