The Horizontal Mode of A Waking Life considers the lives of food
and objects, transplanting them from their original contexts and
functions as a means of calling attention to the unremarkable, and
the possible ways in which they interact with each other in modern
everyday life. These displaced, recontexturalized objects function
as a prompt from which the viewer can imaginatively
reconstructed a fictional narrative of the owner's life. By
defamiliarizing the familiar, I create a new way of perceiving
everyday life and emphasize the traces of desire and absurdity that
can hardly find a place in daily routines.
