11-year-old Eik doesn't know it yet, but she is going to be
considered specially precious in her home country.
Situated between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean,
the Faroe Islands have always been an isolated society of
approximately 540 square miles of volcano remains. Religion,
tradition and the big forces of nature are main factors in the lives
of the around 50.000 inhabitants.
But with the internet and globalization the youth is suddenly
connected to the rest of the world, and they travel abroad for their
education.
Some of the men come back, but the women rarely do. Now the
islands house 13 percent fewer women than men, and the number
is increasing and threatening the existence of the country.
The title of the photo essay 'Yrkingar' is faroese for poems.
Awards Posselt’s awards include a first prize in World Press Photo, a first prize in Pictures of the Year international and awards in PDN Photo Annual, the Danish Pictures of the Year as well as in UNICEF Photo of the Year, and more. In 2013 Posselt was nominated for the Joop Swart Masterclass and participated in the Eddie Adams Workshop. In 2014 she received the Danish Crown Prince Couple's Rising Star Award.
