This book is a tribute to the highly gifted dancers of the Vienna State Ballet.

The dancers entrusted themselves to the photographer Lois Lamnmerhuber and permitted him
to watch them during their training hours, settled between physical creativity and an
almost Buddhistic discipline as well as during their performances and premieres.

The photographer could experience the incredible amount of passion it takes to study a
piece of choreography the way it was pictured, how heavily bodies are and must be
challenged well beyond the thresholds of pain, how much pain and sweat it takes to
transform music into a motion work of art. Satisfaction is not a term considered;
perfection beyond reach is at the same time incentive, way and goal – in other words,
reaching for the stars.

As a result, this book is a visual tale full of simpleness and grace, sometimes weighted
down with doubt and sometimes radiant with joy, magical, touching, blunt, and intimate;
full of amicable trust and danced moments of happiness, and full of wonderful and very
personal emotions.

• Biography
  Edition Lammerhuber has specialized in the creation of quality reference books with a distinctive visual look focusing on photography. It was founded 12 years ago by Silvia and Lois Lammerhuber, who was named three times best reportage photographer, is a member of the Art Directors Club New York, received the Republic of Austria’s Cross of Honour, First Class, for Science and Art and is since 2018 director of Festival La Gacilly-Baden Photo. Edition Lammerhuber was voted three times Europe’s best photo book editor by the Federation of European Professional Photographers.
