The Spiritual Nature of Trees
Trees are living monuments to the passage of time as measured in
human years. People carry the awareness of time and place as
memories. Trees are like living links to the distant past whose
stories are survived. Thanks to their isolation on remote mountain
sides, national parks, and private lands, we carry that awareness in
our being because it is a part of what we feel and who we are in
the natural world that endures.
As a child growing up in the woodlands and seacoast of New England, I gained an appreciation for the beauty of the natural world. As a young adult, I pursued an education which included art history, French and science. Today, I am a freelance photographer with a passion for landscapes and conservation. I have lived in Doylestown, PA with my family for the last 23 years.
I enjoy being an observer of nature. I never tire of exploring ways to convey what I see and feel in the wilderness. At a deeper level, and if I am lucky, I might capture a fleeting moment of something unexpectedly beautiful. Sometimes this experience becomes a kind of spiritual connection with wild places that often provides a stillness for anyone who is willing to receive it.
For me, a work of art is a product of the person, not the tools. Every image that I create has a story behind it. The story helps me recall the memories and emotions necessary in the creative process to make expressive and realistic artwork from the raw images first captured in the camera.
I create prints with large-format printers on fine art papers using archival pigmented inks. My camera and printers of choice are the Canon 5D Mark III and the Epson 7900 and 9900.
I donate at least 10% of all sales to The Nature Conservancy, National Parks Conservation Association, Defenders of Wildlife, and the Sierra Club. I also support the local arts where I live and am a Board Member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen.
Thank you for your interest in my artwork.
