One hundred years fruit market in the metropolis

The Yau Ma Tei fruit Market is the oldest fruit market complex in
downtown Hong Kong. Build in 1931, it has more than 100 years of
history. It consists of several blocks of one or two storey brick and
stone buildings. Pre-World War II signboards are on the outer walls of
the buildings. Today, surrounded by Hong Kong’s signature high-rises,
the 1.5-hectare wholesale fruit market is an urban village. Many
wholesalers still operate in the market. The busiest hours are 4 to 6
o'clock in the morning. Lorries and carts deliver boxes of fruit in and
out of the market. For many years, the government is attempting to
the decommission of the market into another wholesale complex and
the discussion are still in progress.
