WOMEN’S CO-OPERATIVE FISHING
A group of women from the district of Midnapur in the state of West
Bengal, India started a cooperative society for fishing in the nearby
river SHILABATI and also in local ponds. The most of the women had
never fished before; even today they do not own any boat or supplies
that would support their efforts to generate income and better feed
their families. These women never received any financial assistance
from any bank or any government subsidy what so ever.
And it is also ironical that the husbands of most of them believed that
fishing wasn't for women – that it was men’s job remarked one of the
cooperative member. Finally they understood the women’s
participation in fishing had improved their family’s financial condition
and their wives are no longer a burden to their families.
Nutrition among cooperative members and their children is also
improving. They fish, sell, and keep the unsold fish for their families.
Their children are no longer hungry because of their cooperative
society.
I AM AN AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER, WORKING IN A NATIONALISED BANK,IN KOLKATA FOR THE LAST 36 YEARS. BUT I LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY, AS THE OTHER PHOTOGRAPHERS DO.FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS I PERTICIPATED IN "SALONS" AFFILIATED TO FIAP AND PSA,AROUND THE WORLD. NOW I AM TRYING TO IMPROVE MY PHOTOGRAPY BY TAKING PART IN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS. I THINK, THE RESULT WILL DEFINITELY COME IN FUTURE.
Awards OCCUPATION – RETIRED FROM BANKING INDUSTRY/ AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER. HOBBY – PHOTOGRAPHY. EDUCATION – GRADUATED IN 1971 FROM CALCUTTA UNIVERSITY.
