Light painted still life

A few years ago I'd witnessed a following scene in one of the art galleries.
In one of the rooms with exposition of a Dutch Still Life a young man had taken out his expensive DSLR and quickly started taking pictures those still lives.
Noise of the shutter had distracted many visitors and minutes later one old lady came straight to him and said : " Young man, you are probably a very ambitious photographer but as far as I understand to do a copy of somebody's still lives is much easier than creating of one of your own , say, with help of such a wonderful equipment.."
I don't know the name of that man and his success in photographic field but after that overheard conversation my hobby had another new impulse
