In Italy 8 millions people are on the edge of poverty. The economic crisis boosted the phenomenon and an increasingly amount of persons are forced to live in the streets. The government has dramatically cut the budget for social politics and services to cope with the economic restrictions. Italian welfare system had to deal with funds retrenchments that from the 2,3 billions of euro of 2008, fell to the 430 millions of 2011. Moreover, money is only invested in urgency help and not in progrmas for development and rehabilitation, making a no way out scenario from poverty for most of the people.
I have been photographing and interviewing homeless for the last six months at the soup kitchens, in the street. I use a black cloth as a background to subtract the context, that is misleading. The stereotype homeless=degradation=different from us, makes no more sense. The degraded context in a consequence, not the cause to be foused on. With these pictures I want to convey a direct relationship between the viewer and the subject. Homeless=human being=same as everybody.
I am a journalist and photographer mainly involved in the music field. I also do reportages, watch and interact with all kind of human being. I would say I love everything that has the energy to bring people together, a concert a dinner a wedding a funeral.
