Grand Rue Portraits
These images were made in the Grand Rue neighborhood, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, December, 2009.
I opened a formal portrait studio, and invited members of the local community to have sit for a portrait. Images were shot in 8x10.
Laura Heyman is an artist and curator based in Syracuse, New York. She received an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1998. Her work has been widely exhibited in group and solo exhibitions at The Deutsch Polen Institute, Darmstadt, Germany, Ampersand International Arts, San Francisco, California, Senko Studio, Viborg, Denmark, The Laguna Art Museum, Los Angeles, California, The Ghetto Biennale, Port-au-Prince Haiti, and The National Portrait Gallery, London, UK, among others. Her most recent curatorial project, â??Whoâ??s Afraid of Americaâ?? featuring work by Justyna Badach, Larry Clark, Cheryl Dunn, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Zoe Strauss and Tobin Yelland, was exhibited at Wonderland Art Space, Copenhagen, Denmark in November 2008.
