Fran’s photo paintings have been exhibited widely, both locally and internationally, and are in many private collections as well the permanent collections of major museums. Her photo-paintings are imbued with her interest in psychology and art history and her many years of drawing and painting. She resides in New England, spending much of her time on the Outer Cape with its special quality of light.
She is an Affiliated Scholar at the Women’s Studies Research Center, Brandeis University. Her 2nd major book. "The Rest Between Two Notes, will be released by Unicorn Publishing, Sept. 2019.
Awards Fran Forman’s artwork is included in major museums and private collections worldwide, including the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Washington, DC, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
In addition to an extensive number of solo and group exhibitions, including the Fox Talbot Museum in the UK and the Griffin Museum, Fran has won numerous significant awards and prizes: most recently, 1st place from the Julia Margaret Cameron awards, 2nd place from Lucie Foundation and the Photography Gala awards, and 1st Place, Gold and Silver from PX3 Prix de la Photographie, Paris.
Escape Artist: The Art of Fran Forman, was selected as one of the Best PhotoBooks of 2014 by Elizabeth Avedon. Her 2nd major book. "The Rest Between Two Notes, will be released by Unicorn Publishing in the fall of 2019. Forman teaches and lectures broadly and was the Commencement Speaker at the New England School of Photography in 2018.
Forman studied art and sociology at Brandeis University, received an MSW in psychiatric social work, and then an MFA from Boston University.
