Donald Miralle is recognized as one of the most innovative photographers in the industry and his approach to underwater photography has been singled out by critics as one of the most unique amongst photographers today. His work has been awarded multiple times by World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International, NPPA Best of Photojournalism Sports Photojournalist of the Year, Sasakawa World Sports Photography Contest, National Headliner Award, Mobius Awards and many other accolades. Donald?s work has been profiled in magazines and on TV shows including Photo District News, British Journal of Photography, Better Photgraphy India, The Holland Times, Top Magazine and Photo Magazine in Brazil as well as Vitrine Entertainment Television, ESPN, NBC and Calumet TV. He has served as a keynote speaker at many events including the PDN PhotoPlus Expo, Great White North Workshop, and ?Behind the Lens? aside legend Arnold Newman and Brent Stirton in 2005. He is active with the education of photojournalism at colleges and workshops including Brooks College Ventura, Art Center Design Pasadena, and Sportsshooter Academies. In addition, Donald has served on the jury for the Swedish Pictures of the Year (Arets Bild 2007, Stockholm), the Wisconsin Press Photographers Association and the Utah Press Photographers Association.
Donald?s was an All-American swimmer and water polo player at Loyola High School and was a member of the last Division I Men?s Swimming Team at UCLA. He continues competing in triathlons and paddleboard races, and recently won the 25th annual Bay to Bay 20-mile paddleboard race 14-foot division in 2008 in a time of 4 hours. He also enjoys surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, basketball, cycling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu in his spare time. He is currently living the dream in North County San Diego, California with his wife Lauren, and sons Luke and Micah.
