A Kuwaiti national born in Senegal in 1983, Monira starts painting at a very young age, under the influence of her mother, a successful Kuwaiti artist and writer. She experiences the Gulf War at age 7, following which, as a sort of reaction to harsh realities, she is lured into the fantasy world of Japanese animation, which captivates her. In 1999 she moves to Tokyo under a scholarship from the Kuwaiti government, and upon graduating from art school in 2005, she completes her first animated film "Visual Violence?, which receives great praise. Monira is still currently living in Tokyo, enrolled in a PHd program at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts & Music. She is always striving to preserve her originality as a person as well as an artist, creating film, graphic design, photography, and all forms of fine art.
