Waiting for the Honk

Trained in cinematography, Petru Maier uses his camera to look at familiar places in a different light. His landscapes catch moments which usually go unseen ? the fresh light of early morning or the moment of transformation as day turns to evening. Petru aims to capture the moment of change when light transports familiar landscapes into the unknown.
A trained cinematographer and cinematography lecturer, Petru is used to keeping multiple factors under strict control. In photography, he enjoys letting nature dictate the shoot and finds it fascinating to tell the story as it is, captured in one static image. The themes of endurance and the passing of time, and showing unseen aspects of familiar objects particularly interest him.
After many years in teaching, he was no longer able to resist the urge to return to creative work, keen to do what he has been trained to do. He made the return to professional photography in 2006. He has since been placed in the top 10 at the Venice International Photo Contest, had two Honourable Mentions at the International Photo Awards competition and been placed Highly Recommended and Finalist in LPA competitions.
