Southeastern Ohio is a microcosm of the poverty that permeates the Appalachian United States. These images are from an on-going book project on these rural communities.
Matt Eich, (b.1986) is a Midwest based freelance photographer with a passion for social documentary storytelling. While living in Ohio his work has focused on the struggles and joys of life in rural communities.
His photographs have been recognized by The Ian Parry Competition, POYi, and Photo District News, among others. Both American Photo Magazine and The Magenta Foundation selected him as one of the Emerging Photographers of 2007. In 2006 he was named College Photographer of the Year.
