The project aims to mirror the reality as it is nowadays in the distant domains of Russia (the Urals), while questioning the meaning of the past, tradition and memory and probing the local distinctiveness and inherent cultural peculiarities. The project entitled Detached and Recalled has emerged as a multifaceted visual reflection on the idea of society in its correlation to temporal and spatial aspects as well as to the concept of human existence.
Through the elevation of the casual, the everyday and the literal into specific, permanent symbols, I have attempted to embrace the essence of society and culture. Detached and Recalled is also can be comprehended as an endeavour to question the meaning of the past and tradition in relation to the present and its projection onto the future. The certain relics of society and outmoded way of living as they exist now explicitly allude to the past and to that extend confront the progress and extensive renewal. The sense of timelessness resonates through the project and deepens its concept. From this viewpoint, the project incarnates an indispensable visual chronicle. Human factor dwells in the core of Detached and Recalled, as long as the project adopts the idea the presence of people in their physical absence on photographs. The actual patterns of existence, imprints of mankind and human traces serve as primary visual agents, which embody the society and communicate through the language of symbolism and metaphors.
