Vanishing Silver ? Wendy Kwan
Scans for this submission are made from original wet darkroom fibre based silver gelatin prints, printed by the photographer. All prints are dual toned for archival and aesthetic considerations. The source is exclusively black and white film.
?Vanishing Silver? is a collection of new work exhibited for the first time in November 2007 at Galleons Lap Photography Gallery on Salt Spring Island, Canada. Photographed in abandoned mining towns of southwest Montana, the exhibition places the viewer in the midst of physical remnants left behind. It is now only through imagination we consider the people, the challenges associated with such remote and dangerous conditions, and the short lived but resilient communities that resulted.
I have chosen 5 photographs from the ?Vanishing Silver? collection for presentation in this submission.
Wendy Kwan started producing fine art B&W photography full time in 2001, and has since been exhibited together with her husband Russel in both commercial and academic venues in Canada and the United States. Russel and Wendy?s self-published first book, Chasing Light Stranger, was 3rd Fine Art Book, Px3 2007.
