Since September 2025, tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets to protest nationwide corruption in flood-control projects, demanding accountability, transparency, and better governance.

They followed reports of alleged corruption involving officials and lawmakers—a scandal said to have inked to the tragic deaths of hundreds during floods and massive property losses.

The fallout has plunged the Southeast Asian country into months of political instability, marked by both peaceful gatherings and violent clashes in Metro Manila.

Investigations into such allegations are underway.
