Rust coast

The images in this ‘Rust Coast’ series were taken along a short section of coastline east of Honiara city in the Solomon Islands. It is a place where ships and vehicles that reach the end of their usefulness are dumped. In the 12 years that I have been visiting this location and recorded the changing seascape as rusting hulks are left to rust away, and new wrecks added. Local people with limited resources scratch a living in their shadows. Generations of people grow up along this coast and the children swim in the sea in and around the wrecks, surrounded by the detritus of human development.
