Extinction Rebellion is an international movement of activists that use non-violent actions to persuade governments to act justly on the climate and ecological emergency.
In 2022 dozens of activists in Italy received complaints and expulsion papers for having participated in non-violent protests with a dramatic and communicative impact.
These images show some of the dozens of protests I witnessed.
Italy is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The country’s glaciers are melting rapidly, extreme weather events are becoming more frequent, and the heat waves worsen wildfires.
Marioluca Bariona lived in Turin, Ventimiglia, and Genoa, where he graduated in nursing.
As an activist, he uses photography as a medium to raise awareness around social and environmental issues.
He prefers a concrete photographic language aimed at revealing a collective, choral reality in which identities merge to show common values, demands, needs.
