Inside Lalibela

Religion is a cornerstone in Ethiopian culture;62% practice Orthodox Christianity. Lalibela has monolithic rock-cut churches(s.7-13th) built as a symbolism of Jerusalem by King Lalibela.
The impressive architecture is widely known. However, interior surprised me: Walls were decorated with paintings on religious themes;floor was covered with old rugs, usually red. The presence of pilgrims and priests was common. Some priests proudly showed me their holy relics. I felt a kind of sense lovely decadence.

Kidus Gabriel-Raffael(1,10); Medahne Alem(2,8); Asheten Maryam(3,9); Maryam(4,6,7); Georgis(5)
