Salt Storm investigates the complex natural balance of salt lakes, the impact of climate change and our own human fragility. These ecosystems are extremely vulnerable. A balanced inflow of water is needed to maintain habitat, yet humans use water from these lakes for irrigation and industrial salt production. The result of irrigation: higher incidences of salt storms.
Photographs were captured just before, during, and the day after a "salt storm" in which the pink salt mixed with the colour of the sky. Saline lakes make up 44% of the volume of all lakes and are important to balance climate.
Wolf Nitschke is a French-German photographer based in Paris with a design and architecture and interiors background. Working across editorial, commercial and fine art projects, Wolf's defining attention to detail is a result of his design training and unique eye for art direction and composition.
With a highly considered approach to his art practice, Nitch’s work is recognisable for its clarity and distinct depth of emotion, documenting the complex relationship between humans and nature, urbanism and social fabrics, and architectural design practices.
