Born and brought up in Rio de Janeiro, Alex Oliver developed a driving passion for colour, imagery and, as a consequence, photography from early childhood.
But, it was at the age of 16, onboard ship in the Brazilian Navy that Alex’s eyes were really opened to the great cultural and political diversities of his country and the world beyond as he travelled far and wide. Recognising the significance of this important chapter in his life, Alex began to appreciate the value of the photograph as a means to capture a moment in time that never could be recreated or regained. He determined to document this pivotal, life forming period and the camera has remained by his side ever since.
After studying Sport & Exercise Science at the University Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo, Alex established a successful Fitness Club and, in 2004, visited Barcelona with the aim of developing new ideas for his business. Exposed once again to many different places, people and cultures, Alex never came back and photography became an indelible part of his life.
He worked first as a portrait photographer, however his love and respect for animals, took him to a completely different direction and for 2 years he worked in his book of dogs, yet to be published.
At present, Alex is creating fine art photographic compositions of urban street life in cities across the world and also with dogs, using amongst others, his two Jack Russells, Butch and Sky.
