Transcending Ego

This photograph is a surreal self-portrait about the transcendence of
the mind and breakdown of psychological constructions (the individual
ego). It was shot in 2016 as I have begun to explore the human mind and its psychology in-depth. My special attention is given to the unrevealed and unconscious. Regarding this self-study, I was mainly
influenced by mind altering techniques in order to adopt new perspectives on life, identity and even consciousness itself. I want the viewers to discuss what they see and the photograph to leave room for interpretation, because the human mind is always subjective and the perception of things is different. - As conscious beings, reality is always something we create individually.

German photographer Julian Schievelkamp (born 1994) is one of the young generation of fine art photographers. A scholarship enabled him to study experimental photography in Cologne in 2015. As an artist, he visualises surreal experiences and deals intensively with psychological, philosophical and ethnological topics. His psychedelic artwork has been exhibited in London, Berlin and Cologne.
