Le Petit Prince

Commissioned by the National Ballet of Canada, Guillaume Côté
Principal Dancer and Choreographic Associate adapts Le Petit
Prince for world premiere full-length ballet this June 2016.
Renowned theatre/opera/ballet designer Michael Levine
brings to life the story of the aviator who encounters in the
desert the enigmatic Little Prince and learns of his travels
through the universe and of the illuminating people he has met.
Mr. Levine, who has followed my underwater photography
practice, thought I might be a good fit for the stills. Shooting
these dancers underwater is very similar to the experience of
floating in space – just a little more accessible, created in a
backyard pool.

Figure transformation has been a predominant theme in my work. Over the past thirty years I have been operating as a painter but employing traditional photographic tools.
I rework this canvas with a toolkit that includes clouds, reflections, plastic sheeting, cloth-encased figures as well as aperture, shutter speed and artificial lighting.
