PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris 2025 – Non-Professional
First Place Winner in Architecture – THE HOUSE WITH HAIR

Could you walk us through how you discovered The House with Hair and why it captured you more than your original subject?

I had been looking for the house for well over a year and could never find it , so myself and a friend went to capture two more houses and found them with little trouble but had missed the parking spot so we decided to drive on to a farm house in the distance and turn the car around so we would be able to park the car in the correct spot , however on reaching the farmhouse we saw much to our delight the House with hair which was hidden by the farm.

Did you attempt multiple visits or different lighting to capture different moods of The House with Hair?

I did visit it on two occasions but found the first visit was the best , I pretty much new it would be but just could not help myself going for a second look.

In post-processing, how much do you intervene versus preserving what the deterioration naturally offers?

Very little was done to the raw image as conditions were near perfect with flat light and a slight fog so all I did to the image was to remove an overhead cable.

As an amateur photographer who took up the craft after 30 years of service in the fire service, how does this award, Architecture Photographer of the Year, feel in relation to your artistic journey?

I am greatly honored on getting awarded this special prize and appreciate very much the support! I enjoy entering photographic competitions as I constantly try to improve and look at it as a means of judging my performance against my peers.

Has this project changed the way you see, wander through, or engage with architecture, ruins, or forgotten spaces in general?

If anything, it has given me even more encouragement to try and find more interesting subject to photograph! I constantly look for wonderful subjects in a minimal environment.
