A child went by the cafe I was working and picked up this strange white mask on the floor. He put it on his face, as any kid would do to play around, but this time the scene had a whole other resonance. I took a photo, and it was only later when people gave me comments on how they were identifying themselves in the portrait that I understood its strong dichotomy. They commented words such as : Black Lives Matter, White Supremacy, Racism, Discrimination, Hiding, Fear and made me realise that this photo was unfolding much more than the innocence of a child playing with a new found toy. Sometimes, for your life, there's still the need to hide.
